DT was moving flats today and asked me to help as his very willing and able set of friends were, unusually, not available to help. Totally happy to help of course – and pleased to be asked.
I have never assumed that my step-children (when I first met My Jane’s children, DT was 14) think of me as “dad” (and of course I’m not their father) – but I like to think I can be “dad” if and when they want me to be – so it is always a delight and pleasure when they ask things of me that you’d expect any of your children to ask of you.
His new flat is just around the corner from me, a few miles from his previous place, and we got the job done in an afternoon with 4 car loads – and dozens of trips up stairs to the third floor flat as the lift was broken of course. It was hard work…but straight away it was an invite to the pub, a few beers, and fish and chips on him.
A good day with DT, and it made me extremely happy to sit with him, having a good chat in our new “local”; a pub that I’d never been to with My Jane as it was too far for her to walk to so we just hadn’t bothered as if we were driving might as well head out further afield.
Enjoy the new flat…cheers!
