My Jane and I had a box each that we kept cards we’d given each other: birthday, Christmas, Valentines day. Many of us do this.

In one of my early tidy-ups I added a load of cards to My Jane’s box that hadn’t been put away yet – without a look – and put the box in a cupboard knowing I’d have to decide what to do with them at some point.

I’m not at that point yet.

Today, while clearing out a small cupboard to give it away, I came across a singular birthday card – quite a fun one that played a tune when you opened it.

Part of my message read “Happy Birthday, and to many more”.

I remember giving this card in April 2025, just after the completion of the radiotherapy treatments for the lung cancer.

There was only one more birthday after that one.
