Actually, the same day – I just got on with it, on automatic pilot, as I imagine is normal.

I phoned the burial ground/funeral directors and made an appointment for Monday and let the 2 local boys know – they wanted to come along too.

I felt I had to deal with some immediate stuff…take the loan wheelchair back and LOADS of medications (mostly morphine or other controlled drugs….2 carrier bags of it all!) to the pharmacy for safe disposal. Just needed to do something, I think.

My son (GH) messaged asked if I’d like him to come over. Part of me wants to be with someone. Or everyone. Or alone. But was a long way for him to come.

But, on balance, I decided I would rather not be alone so I arranged to meet the 2 local boys (DT and EDT) for a sandwich and beer once I’d run my errands.

It was what we needed — a bit of relative normality — but mostly an opportunity to talk about it all; My Jane was their mother after all.

It was good, and, as well as other things, we discussed funeral plans before we all went there on Monday.
